Prep Work

When I was in junior high, the popular kids were called "preps." At that time and in that place, "preppy" clothing consisted of Guess jeans (the ones with the zipper at the ankle), Esprit bags (the super big tote bags), Keds with no laces, and definitely a perm.

Today when I think of "preppy," I think of lots of different things. There's pink gingham, pearls and cardigans preppy; there's plaid skirts, penny loafers and Peter Pan collar blouses preppy; and there's blazers, polo shirts and khakis preppy. The latter is definitely more in my comfort zone, so this was the route I chose for today's Style Me April prompt, "Prep School Perfect."

This outfit features two items from my shop that, seriously, if someone does not buy them soon, I'm just going to take down the listings and keep them. I looooove this navy blouse; it is so lightweight and airy and easy to wear. The little puff sleeves just make it for me. And these ballerina pumps are really growing on me. The heel height is terrific for me, the style is classic and the color is perfect for any season.

  1. I really like this outfit! But I continue to be mystified by what actually constitutes preppy style. There are so many mixed or contradictory messages out there.

    1. Ha, I know what you mean - it seems to mean something different to everyone. Which I guess is OK, right?

  2. I love the color combination! The scarf is so cute.

    1. Thanks! I tend to wear "fall" colors all year long ... :)
