It dawned on me recently that I spend a lot of time thinking about how to tweak outfits or garments to make them work-appropriate. So I've decided to put together some examples of how to incorporate unconventional elements into office-ready outfits. Up first this week: a madras blouse.
Making It Work: Madras blouse by plankface featuring a circle skirt
I bought an Easter-egg-colored plaid blouse months ago and was so psyched to wear it, but every time I tried to put an outfit together with it, it looked too casual. Khakis were definitely out. Dark trousers just looked ... wrong. But when I tucked it to an olive full skirt, I instantly loved the retro feel of the outfit. Here, I've dressed it up further with some nude pumps, and added a chunky chain necklace to keep the look from becoming totally retro. The mint clutch throws in an unexpected pop of color.
So what do you think — would you wear this combo? How would you style a plaid button-down for the office? I'd love to hear your comments.
