Usually I plan out what I'm going to wear the night before. But every now and then, there comes a morning when I wake up with no idea what I'm doing. When that happens, I usually reach for a dress I've had for a while, because how badly can I screw that up?

I bought this dress last year and was pretty stoked to wear it during fall and winter, but as I learned in January, it kind of gets lost under too many layers. So it was perfect for a cool August day (as in, about 70 degrees) last week.

Not sure why I ended up looking so moody/borderline goth in these pictures ... but I kinda like it. I used to wear dark lipstick all the time, and kind of got away from it, but every time I do bust out the darker colors, I find that I really enjoy it. Sometimes I feel like I weirdly push myself away from the things I love the most, just to get myself to try new things. Which is good in some ways, but stupid in others. You know?

I stumbled upon my grandmother's amethyst ring in my jewelry box (which, let's be honest, is a Tupperware container) and felt it was just the right addition to this outfit. It's too big for me, but for some reason it seems like sacrilege to have it re-sized. So I got a cheap ring sizer, and it does the job just fine for the occasional wear this gets.

Dark floral dress: Vintage, thrifted
Gold beaded necklace, amethyst ring: My grandmother's
Brown suede wedges: Aerosoles, consignment
Total cost: About $6

    1. Thanks! It is a bit shabby but that never stopped me before :)

  2. The dress is gorgeous, and fits you so well! Love the ring too. Family jewelry like that is so special, and that makes it even prettier!

    ♥ perfectly Priya

    1. Thanks! This was a great example of "shopping my closet," I totally had forgotten I had this dress ... please tell me I'm not the only one who does this!!
