Darkness: Black bow-front blazer and polka dot dress

Is it telling that I wore all bright, sunny, cheerful pastel colors while I was on vacation, and then my first day back to work I wore ... this?

I consciously try not to make my clothes match my mood if I'm feeling dark — instead, I try to use them as an antidote to lift my spirits. But sometimes, you just gotta go with lots of black.

Don't get me wrong — I am seriously crushing on this bow-front blazer that I scored at a recent bag sale for less than $1. It's got beautiful robin's-egg blue lining, too, which you can almost see peeking out by my elbow (I am a sucker for a good lining).

But this is not the face of someone who is saying, "Whee, back to work!" (Although, let's be real, I suffer from Resting Bitch Face anyway. And, side note: I seriously need to step up my bow-tying game.)

But it's not all Cure songs and moping here at Bread and Roses HQ. In fact, there are some things in the works that I'm pretty excited about, but I can't spill the beans just yet.

In the meantime, I will content myself with little mood-lifters, like this red slip, which gave my monochrome dress a little colorful lift.

Black bow-front blazer: Thrifted
Black-and-white polka dot dress: Vintage, thrifted
Mustard tights: H&M
Black oxford heels: Franco Sarto, thrifted
Total cost to me: About $25

  1. Subtle pops of color, mixing polka dot patterns, and a beautiful shade of lipstick?! This outfit is a knockout! I wouldn't even guess you got the back-to-work blues. haha

    1. Thanks! I was just surprised by how dark everything looked when I put it all together - but a nice ruffly skirt always puts a smile on my face :)
