Thrift Audit: Salvation Army, Feb. 22

Now that I'm back on the thrift audit bandwagon, I'm really trying to crack down and be a sensible shopper.

It's a slow time on Etsy, so I'm focusing on items I can sell on consignment ... although the occasional vintage piece may sneak in from time to time.

Total spent: $6.52
Items purchased: 12
Cost per item: $0.54

NY&Co. gray lightweight slacks, size 6

Keep or sell: Sell
These would be so nice for summer — they feel like a light, cotton-linen blend.
Good or bad buy: Good buy — the consignment stores are taking spring/summer items now, so I am hoping to turn these around quickly after a wash and a press.

Vintage plaid shirt dress

Keep or sell: Sell ... ?
This is the "occasional vintage item," I guess! I just love the color palette (and the bias-cut pockets). I am dying to model this with a belt and some boots. Depending on fit, I'll either keep it, or save it to list in the fall.
Good or bad buy: Either way, I'm happy with it.

Tommy Hilfiger skinny gray cords, size 10

Keep or sell: ?
These were super wrinkly and a bit dirty from having fallen on the floor (this is the reality of thrifting at my local Salvation Army. I'm not judging, it's winter in upstate NY and you have people tracking in all kinds of crud, so the floors aren't exactly spotless by the end of a long day of shopping), so I put them straight into the laundry without even a try-on. If they fit, I'm totally keeping them; I've been without a pair of good gray pants for too long. If they don't, I'll save them for fall and see if I can hawk them at the consignment store.
Good or bad buy: Good buy either way, I think
.

Blue cocoon cardigan

Keep or sell: Keep
I have ended up getting tons of use out of the two long cardigans I have thrifted recently (I pretty much wear them all weekend, every weekend). So I was happy to find another one in a slightly different style. Looking forward to wearing this with jeggings and boots for pretty much the rest of the winter.
Good or bad buy: Good buy

Old Navy gray corduroy vest

Keep or sell: Keep
I keep buying vests and then not wearing them ... but they always seem like such a good idea at the time. I'm going to make a serious effort with this one, since it's not a good bet for re-sale based on the brand.
Good or bad buy: Bad buy; wishful thinking that I will really wear it. But, look at the lining! Can you blame me?

Chartreuse open-front cardigan, XS

Keep or sell: Sell
I forgot to note the brand on this one, but it's a label that I expect the consignment store will take. Please tell me I'm not the only one who loves citron, or whatever you call this color!
Good or bad buy: Mediocre buy — the size, and the color, make it iffy.

Armand Thiery khaki skirt, Euro size 38 (US 6)

Keep or sell: Sell
I had never heard of this brand, but it seemed reasonably well-made, and interesting looking. It's a nice, lightweight synthetic that would wear great in hot weather, and I'm hoping a trip through the wash will make it look more presentable.
Good or bad buy: Hoping the more high-end / designer consignment store in town will take it. I always think of what the owner said, which was essentially, "My customers don't want to look like everyone else."

Forest green corduroy Croft & Barrow skirt, size 10

Keep or sell: Sell
This is the sort of skirt that, a few years ago, I would have bought for myself because I like the color, and it's appealing to me. Now I know that I don't really like wearing this cut, so I'm passing it by. This is one of two Croft & Barrow skirts I found, which are the same style in different sizes, which makes me wonder if it's a coincidence (it's not a brand I see all that often).
Good or bad buy: Good buy, even if it does have to wait for fall.

The Limited houndstooth pencil skirt, size 8

Keep or sell: Sell
This one is tempting to keep, but I really don't think I'd wear it enough to justify it. It's really pretty, and in great shape.
Good or bad buy: Good buy, although I'm not sure if they'll take it now, or if it'll have to wait for fall.

Ivory flared Rafaella lined skirt, size 10

Keep or sell: Sell
Another tempting skirt that isn't a style I find flattering! I'm sensing a theme ...
Good or bad buy: Good buy — it's in great condition.

Tweed and leather pencil skirt

Keep or sell: Keep
This is the shameful secret of this thrift outing. I had seen this a few weeks back and really liked the leather trim at the waistband, so when I saw it was on sale, I just grabbed it. Big mistake:

So I am going to put this in my fabric-scraps bag as penance, and try to figure out something productive to do with it.
Good or bad buy: Bad buy!

Croft & Barrow wine-colored corduroy skirt, size 6

Keep or sell: Sell
The little sister of the green skirt up above. This one has the tags (from Kohl's) still on it:

Good or bad buy: Good buy, as above.

Overall grade: B-
Keep vs. sell ratio:
Keep 25% / Sell 75%

This was one of those thrift outings that seemed better before I sat down and did the audit. Out of the 12 things I bought, I'm keeping four, and only a couple of these can go straight to consignment. Not the outcome I was aiming for. I don't mind storing stuff for a season, but I was hoping to turn more around quicker! As always, if you see anything you like, get in touch — my No. 1 goal is to turn this stuff over, so I welcome all offers.
