Thrift Audit: Salvation Army, March 30

Would you believe this was one of my most expensive thrift hauls of all time?

Total spent: $56.38
Items purchased: 12
Cost per item: $4.70

This craziness is brought to you by the fact that everything in the entire thrift store was 50 percent off, including the dreaded "red tags," which otherwise never go on sale. So I kind of went a little bit nuts. As with last week's thrift audit, all items marked "sell" are available to be purchased via Instagram (click the item title for a link).

Guys, I HATE sunglasses. I mean, I generally hate glasses but I particularly hate sunglasses. I feel like they always look ridiculous on me! But I have pretty sensitive eyes so it is really not optional for me to have a pair for spring/summer.
Good or bad buy: I don't even know what to say about this. I will definitely wear these, but I won't enjoy it!

Vintage Peck & Peck purple velvet kiss-lock clutch

Keep or sell: Sell
It was hard to capture the rich color of this velvet, but it's really pretty in person! The lining is a pale blue satin.
Good or bad buy: Good buy — it's simple, chic and timeless.

Vintage tooled leather purse with reversible flap

Keep or sell: Sell
Tooled leather bags are definitely on my "must buy" list — I don't come across them too often, so I jumped at this chance to pick one up for a reasonable price. It has an unusual feature, too — the flap of the purse is completely reversible, so you can fold it all the way around the purse the other way and clasp it on the other side! I've never seen anything quite like it — I'm going to try to capture it on video so you can get a better idea.
Good or bad buy: Good buy

Vintage off-white beaded evening bag

Keep or sell: Sell
The little geometric designs on this bag just put it over the top for me. It's labeled "Hand Made in Hong Kong."
Good or bad buy: Good buy

Deadstock vintage Amana Woolens gray and yellow plaid jacket

Keep or sell: Sell
Um. I would have sworn I took a picture of the front of this jacket, but apparently nope. I will update later when I get a chance to shoot another one! This was one of the pricier items I bought — the jacket still has the paper hang tag and it's in gorgeous, gorgeous condition. I love the print and the cropped fit — it would be amazing over a full midi skirt.
Good or bad buy: Good buy

Vintage "Jazz" purple high heels, size 8

Keep or sell: Sell
Not gonna lie, I almost tried to squeeze my feet into these for a second (I usually wear an 8.5/9). They are in pristine condition, other than some price markings — the soles are completely smooth.
Good or bad buy: Good buy

Vintage pink striped two-piece set

Keep or sell: Sell
I've got to get some better photos of this set before I list it, which is why it's not linked here, but this is such a pretty little two-piece set! The top is a pullover, and the dress has a sheer, slip-like bodice and a skirt to match the top. I've never seen a set quite like this, but it's charming.
Good or bad buy: Good buy — I think it will present a lot better when it's cleaned up and modeled properly

Jeans for husband

Keep or sell: Keep
Not much to see here, just a pair of jeans for my husband. Finding men's clothes secondhand is so tough! There's literally about 1/10 the amount of men's clothes compared to women's at our thrift store.
Good or bad buy: Good buy

Girls' clothing

Keep or sell: Keep
I picked up this swim cover-up and plaid romper for my daughter. She loves both of them! The cover-up has some stains on the hood but, honestly, I don't even care.
Good or bad buy: Good buy

Vintage Malia of Hawaii sundress

Keep or sell: Keep
That moment when you think it's ModCloth, but it's really vintage! This one looks like my size, so right now I'm planning to keep it.
Good or bad buy: Good buy — I mean, look at it! As you know, I'm a big fan of crazy prints, so this is right up my alley.

Vintage burnout velvet gown with marabou trim

Keep or sell: Sell
The grand finale! I had my eye on this dress for a few days before the big sale, and actually made a special stop in right when the store opened to buy just this dress. I mean ... it's pretty amazing. Red carpet-worthy. I never find stuff like this, so I am still in awe. AND, it comes with a matching pocketbook!
Good or bad buy: Good buy, if only because I got to experience the thrill of handling this beautiful garment

Overall grade: A
Keep / sell ratio:
Keep 41% / sell 59%

This is definitely an unorthodox thrift outing for me, but I'm truly happy with the results. Every now and then, it's exciting to splurge a little bit on slightly more "big-ticket" items instead of just trying to get absolute rock-bottom deals. Be sure to check out the rest of the items I posted to Instagram — there's a few other contemporary odds and ends that never made it into a thrift audit. And check back next week for my first rummage sale of the season!
